Essay: A Seperate PeaceIn the novel, A Separate Peace by John Knowles, there are some very important characters. Elwin Lepellier, "better known as Leper" (17) to his friends, is treated as an outcast and pariah. He's the type of person who "was most often and most emphatically taken by surprise" (93) and did not have many friends. Those that he had, though, ultimately made him cause the downfall of Finny and Gene.
A leper as defined by the dictionary is: "a person who has been rejected or ostracized for unacceptable behavior, opinions, or character; anathema; or an outcast" (Dictionary; 413). Elwin's friends dubbed him Leper. He didn't like being called that, but it also made him feel like he was part of the group. It meant that he was at least included, if not exactly liked. All the time, he was trying to make friends, but because of his peculiarity, it never seemed to work. When Finny and Gene were jumping out of the tree, Leper said how Gene's jump "was better then Finny's" (17) because he "was bidding fo
CampingThere was a huge group of students and kids who went on a camping trip somewhere in thick thick woods. We were all having a lot of fun but then strange things began to happen. We saw this girl who's face was painted completely white. She looked really sad, too. The thing is, no one saw her for more then an instant at a time. And I began to see something else that no one else did. It was kinda like the girl but it wasn't walking around, it was sort-of drifiting and instead of a white face, it had a white mask on and it also wore a black cape. The thing about this "person" was that it moved very fast and I could also always see it at the same time that I saw the girl.
This is when even stranger things began to happen. Boys would come back to the main camp and tell stories of these things that looked almost human except for that they didn't have faces (and they were all at least 5'8"). Then reports of being attacked by the things and seeing huge armies of them began coming back. Soon, the

Samneric were dragged away from the chaotic scene by three of the savages.
They were taken to one of the shelters that was out of view from the opening of the camp and away from prying eyes.
In vain, they tried to ease each other's pain. Still tied up, though, it was useless. Even if they hadn't been, they would not have been able to move much without pain racking through their entire bodies. The spears had prodded at the boys' bodies and minds resulting in extreme mental and physical strain. Their faces were almost as unrecognizable as those of the savages, and Jack wasn't even close to being done with them.
When he went to see Samneric, Jack knew who was in command from the second he walked into the room. He wasn't alone in his knowledge, either. His spear also knew who the chief was. "So you're for Ralph?!" Jack spat. "You're going to pay." Without waiting for a reply, Jack hit Sam across the head,
Slowly drifting in and out
It washes time ashore.
The clock has stopped though.
No more writing flows from my Royal mouth.
Shadows elongate torsos encased in black.
A single pendant drifting in the silken death.
Open mouth gives passage for a throaty cry.
Let the poisonous ecstasy flow down your throat.
Sleek bottle with a dark shine;
You slip out of my lax grip.
Still don't even shatter on the soft grains.
Soft wet grains go on forever.
Even under the vast, cold water.
They're not so soft once held though.
They can scratch and burn.
Funny how things can be good and bad:
Good and bad like the poison in the bottle.
It frees you and causes release,
Release from things caging you…
Like society's standards.
That's why I scream.
Captured Talk"Your Whole Life is A Poem"
I want to be sorry,
But that was your fault.
It doesn't matter.
You guys are
Where the hell were you when I needed you?!
The windows are up – it's not for you.
Every time you fail - every time it rains,
Should we start all over?
It only gets worse in winter.
And no matter how hard I try, you're never satisfied.
I need to vanish.
There's no one here.
Bye, I love you.
Oh, you foolish people!
"I'll do things for you…"
Does that ring a bell?!
I thought I had your love.
Tell me what happened!
What do you want?!
Isn't there anything I can say to keep you?
There's only us.
I'll be yours-
Another promise passes by.
Fact or fiction?
Check out sad guys, you might see someone like you.
Never with enough satisfaction for me.
What is it?
It's probably time to go back – too late!
Everything always stays the same.
Do you know what grim means?
It hurts when I really love, especially when love is lost.
I always tell you – take sides!
